January 15, 2015 "i was in elementary school when your dad played for the white Sox. He rented a place from my parents in indian rocks beach. I was a tomboy. He spent time with me almost every day teaching me how to pitch and catch. Even though I was very young I knew what a good man he was. There's a life magazine article picturing him other players and me growing a huge cast net into the water. I think it was 1952 or 53. From the obit I can see what a wonderful father he must have been. I have no idea why his name came into my memory but I am glad to share my special memories of him with you. mary" - Mary carroll (Longwood)

Rest Walter, until you hear at dawn,
the low, clear reveille of God.

Walter was a nice, kind man. Opening day is a perfect time to remember him.
