Anne Jeffreys, actress who starred on “General Hospital” and the classic sitcom “Topper,” has died at the age of 94, according to multiple news sources.

News of her passing was first reported by George Pennacchio, an entertainment reporter for KABC in Los Angeles, who tweeted “The beautiful and elegant actress, Anne Jeffreys, has died at 94. She was a sweetheart.”

She was born Anne Carmichael in 1923 in Goldsboro, North Carolina. She won a scholarship as a teenager to the New York Municipal Opera Company in New York City. She sang leads with the company at Carnegie Hall. She also worked as a model for the John Robert Powers Agency.

She made her movie debut in “I Married an Angel”, released in 1942. She starred in two popular Dick Tracy movies in the 1940s, as the detective’s girlfriend Tess Trueheart. The witty Tess often sparred with Dick Tracy, who was always running off to a crime scene.

In the late 1940s, Jeffreys appeared on Broadway, starring in “Kiss Me Kate” and “Three Wishes for Jamie.”

She starred with her husband Robert Sterling on the television sitcom “Topper.” The series ran on CBS from 1953 until 1955. Jeffreys was called "the ghostess with the mostest". They also appeared together on an episode of the TV western series “Wagon Train.”

Jeffreys semi-retired to raise her children. She returned in the 1980s to play a romantic rival to Jane Wyman’s character on the primetime soap opera “Falcon Crest.”

She may be best known for her role as socialite Amanda Barrington on the soap opera “General Hospital” from 1984 until 2004. She also played David Hasselhoff’s mom on “Baywatch.”

Jeffreys received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
