Patti Deutsch, a comedian and voice actress who often appeared on “Match Game,” died Wednesday, July 26, 2017, according to multiple news sources. Deutsch, who had cancer, was 73.

Deutsch was perhaps most recognizable to TV audiences for her red hair, distinctive voice, and ridiculous answers on the 1970s-era “Match Game” game show. Contestants would give answers to fill-in-the-blank phrases in the hope that they would win points by matching answers provided by celebrity panelists. Deutsch, often the last panelist to speak, offered absurd answers that would frequently crack up host Gene Rayburn, fellow panelists, and the audience; rarely, however, would her responses match those of the contestants.

She also appeared regularly on “Tattletales,” often teaming up with her husband, the comedy writer Donald Ross, who survives her. Her wit made her a frequent guest on talk shows hosted by Johnny Carson, Dick Cavett, and Merv Griffin.

Her voice, girlish, yet raspy, was unique and led to prolific work as a voice actor. She did more than 500 local and national radio and TV commercials, and she was featured in cartoons such as “The Smurfs,” “Capitol Critters,” and “Monsters Inc.”

Before settling into her seat on “Match Game,” she was a regular performer on the 1972-73 season of the influential sketch-comedy show “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.” She was also a member of the improv comedy team the ACE Trucking Company, which included other ground-breaking improvisers like Fred Willard. They often appeared on the Tom Jones variety show, “This Is Tom Jones.”

In addition to her husband, Deutsch is survived by sons Max Ross and Lee Sachnoff, daughter Alexis Hill, and several grandchildren.
