Howard P. Walker Howard Painter Walker of Kilmarnock, Virginia, died peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at Rappahannock Westminster Canterbury. He was born in Pearisburg, Virginia, on September 5, 1932, the son of the late Durward and Mary Gladys Walker. He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Alice Petty Walker. Howard served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1954. He graduated from the University of Virginia Commerce School in 1958 and earned his Juris Doctor degree from American University in 1964. During the years 1958 until 1974, Howard worked for the CIA and also was a partner in the private law firm Tilley and Pedigo in Roanoke, Virginia. In 1974, he started private practice in Warrenton, Virginia. The following year, his friend, H. Ben Jones Jr. joined the practice - the original Walker and Jones. In 1978, Walker and Jones merged with two local firms. At the time of his retirement in 2001, he was the senior partner of the law firm Walker, Jones, Lawrence, Duggan and Savage, P.C. Howard was president of the Fauquier Bar Association in 1982. He received numerous awards in his lifetime including: Certificate of Merit from the CIA, Fauquier Board of Realtors' Distinguished Service Award and Fauquier Board of Realtors' Presidential Award. Howard had many interests and hobbies; in particular he enjoyed gardening, viticulture, and the Virginia Cavaliers. Howard was held with deep affection by his friends and family, they enjoyed his sense of humor and southern charm. He will be greatly missed. Howard is also survived by two daughters, Kathryn Walker Smith and her husband, Robert, of Sperryville, Virginia, Robyn Walker Joiner and her husband, Richard, of Jeffersonton, Virginia; two stepsons, Sheffield Edwards III and Michael Conway Edwards and his wife, Melissa, of Warrenton, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Ashley Edwards, Jamie Brumbaugh, Christina Kordonis, Justin Edwards, Melissa Nieber, Annie Joiner, Rebecca Edwards and Rachel Edwards; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sue Carlyle of Richmond, Virginia, and Patricia DeLisio of Fort Myers, Florida. He was predeceased by grandson, James Pete Kordonis. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013, at Warrenton Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow.
