Allen G. Christenson, age 78, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Risen Son Christian Village, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Allen was born, April 27, 1935, in Lake Park, Iowa to Clarence and Lillian (Thompson) Christenson and graduated from Lake Park High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958 and was united in marriage to Beverly Beise on April 9, 1961. Allen worked 11 years at Gopher Aviation in Rochester, Minn., before joining Peoples Natural Gas, where he worked for the next 26 years, retiring in 1998. During retirement he was active in bowling, family tree genealogy, coin collecting, woodworking and jigsaw puzzles. Allen was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active in the Lewis Central Booster Club and an avid bowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Beverly in 1979; and brother, Stanley.
Survivors include son, Tim and wife, Karene, of Council Bluffs; daughters, Dee Christenson, of West Des Moines, Iowa, Amy Fowler and husband, Kevin, of Cherokee, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Tarah, Elise and Cora Christenson, Brianna and Nathan Fowler; brothers, James, of San Diego, Calif., and Marshall and wife, Barb, of Ft. Worth, Texas; sisters, Joyce Paulsen and husband, Kenneth, of Windom, Minn., LeAnna Hacker and husband, Darrell, of Manassas, Va., and Roberta Thorn and husband, Steve, of Lake Park, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family Monday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Allen will be taken to Stewartville, Minn., for a visitation on Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, followed by a graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the grave and a luncheon will follow at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville. Memorials are suggested to Wings of Hope.
