BLOOMQUIST, Donald John Ledin, 95, former director of communications services for Southern States Cooperative, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. A native of Waubun, Minn., he was a graduate of what is now North Dakota State University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations, and a member of American Legion Post #84, The Military Officers Association and the Disabled American Veterans. Following military service, he edited weekly newspapers in Monticello, Minn. and Chatham, Va., prior to joining Southern States in 1955. Survivors include a son, John A. Bloomquist; a daughter, Donna Sanford; one grandson, Ryan C. Sanford; a great-granddaughter, Avery Sanford; two sisters and one brother. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dugger Bloomquist. He was a member of Tuckahoe Lodge #347, AF&AM, and Westhampton United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for over 50 years and taught an adult Sunday school class. There will be a graveside service, including Masonic rights and Military Honors by the Memorial Rifles, at Westhampton Memorial Park on Friday, July 19, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at the Westhampton United Methodist Church, 6100 Patterson Ave., Richmond, Va. 23226, at 11 a.m. on the same day. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church or a charity of your choice.
