MAHADAS, JOSEPH C. 51 - of Lawrence Twp., passed away Saturday morning at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia. The longtime partner of John Bartholomew of Lawrence Twp., he was born and raised in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia and was the son of the late Frank and Margaret Mahadas (nee Bailer). Mr. Mahadas served in the US Army for over 11 years, where he specialized as a crew chief on AH-1 Cobra heli-copters as well as an armorer. His career took him across the US and Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1991 as a specialist. He was proud of his service and continued to be involved in service member related organizations including the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Nabb-Leslie Post # 82 in Millville. In his private life, he had a great passion for photography. His other hobbies included collecting coins, playing paintball with his family, shooting, working on cars and spending time with his dogs. A determined and intense man, he will sadly be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his partner of 18 years, he is survived by two children, Frances and Matthew Mahadas both of Philadelphia, four brothers, Frank Mahadas (Marybeth) of Turnersville, Bart Mahadas of Philadelphia, Aaron Mahadas of Philadelphia and John Cooper (Lisa) of Marlton, nephews Frank Jr. and Michael, nieces, Melissa and Kylene and several additional nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers Charles (at birth) and Mark (2002). Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Liturgy on Thursday morning September 5, 2013 at 11 o'clock at The Parish of the All Saints / St. Mary Magdalene RC Church, 621 Dock St. in Millville. The interment will take place at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Trench Road in Hopewell Twp. Friends will be received at the church Thursday morning between 10 and 11. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or to the Cumberland County SPCA, 1244 N.
