Edward Olen Bickford '54 Obituary

Edward Olen Bickford I am writing to a listing of people that touched my brother's life. Edward Olen Bickford 7-31-1932 - 2-7-2013 I found your name in his address book and wanted you to know about him. A man of honor, dignity, inspiration, and great purpose, Edward spent his life as an adventurer, art collector, lecturer, teacher, lobbyist for local, state, and federal legislation. He had an abiding faith in natural health and healing. He loved the game of tennis. Edward, a true renaissance man, organized and presented touch for health classes and workshops. He was involved in a broad range of issues dealing with a sustainable future, healthcare reform, environmental issues, conflict resolution, nutrition, water and energy conservation, alternative medicine, human rights, arms control, and peace education. Edward was a Green Bay, Wisconsin, East High School 1950 graduate: 1945 BA graduate of Beloit College, and attended Colgate University from 1956 until 1957. Edward lived all over the world and was a resident of Findhorn, Scotland, from 1977 until 1981, an international community dedicated to living within earth's ecological limits with appropriate use of technology. He taught classes in practical health and healing. He also had a modeling career in Muinch, Paris and New York City. Edward worked for several international financial institutions. His engaging personality made him a favorite chauffeur for Ambassador Limo Service in Charlottesville for the last 17 years. Edward died on Thursday, February 7, 2013, with dignity and courage at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he had lived for over 30 years. His family includes his brother, Harold J. Bickford and Hope Kaplan of Westlake Village, California; children, Jennifer, Dave, and Emma Ouzanian of Hood River, Oregon; Jay, Colleen, Riley, and Ryan Bickford of Anchorage, Alaska; his sister, Carol and Robert Bush; children, Tracy and Thomas Arndt, Jennifer, Chris, Olivia, Tate, and Carter Woodruff of Knoxville, Tennessee; Jon Jennifer, Mason Arndt of Western Springs, Illinois; Jay and Lindsay Arndt of Minneapolis; Terry and Nan, Nicholas, and Austin Bush of Green Bay; and Lindsay and Thomas Velarde or Vienna, Vienna; Thomas, Sue, Christopher and Katie Bush of Madison, Wisconsin; Brian of New York City, Michael of Boston, Massachusetts; Toni McBride, Molly, Cathryn, and Sarah McBride of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A sincere, special thank you to his great good friends Mary Jo and Dr. John Herr. A gathering of friends will be at a later date. "God, Grant me the the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." This was Edward's Prayer.
