GILLIS, Frances Patterson, died on February 20, 2013. She was born on December 15, 1919, in Bay City, Mich., the daughter of Frank Clark and Agnes Murphy Patterson. Frances graduated from the University of Michigan in 1941, and worked as an advertising copywriter in Bay City, Boston, Mass., and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Her article, "Winter, North of the Mississippi," was published in The Atlantic Monthly. Frances is survived by her husband, John C. Gillis; two children, Christina Gillis Dudley of Richmond and Jay C. Gillis of Saratoga, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Amy Dudley Sweitzer and Brian Dudley and his wife, Heather Weidner. She was a lady of great energy, intellectual curiosity, and determination, and will be missed by her family. Her remains rest at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where the family will receive guests 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.
