Wayne Marthaler Obituary


Wayne Arthur Marthaler Wayne Arthur Marthaler, 77, went to heaven on Sunday, June 16, 2013, in Goodyear, Arizona. Wayne, better known to his friends as "Marth," was born on February 15, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to Art and Mabel Marthaler. Marth was the youngest of three children. He earned an undergraduate degree in physical education from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Business Administration from Northwestern University. Marth met Patricia Ann Tesar "Tess"at the University of Illinois and were married in 1961. Marth had a long and successful career with Dixie Corporation and subsequently Georgia Pacific Corporation. Marth and Tess retired and moved to Goodyear, Arizona, where Marth was an active volunteer at the local hospital and taught English as a Second Language. Marth and Tess were also active members in their community at Pebble Creek and at The Church at Litchfield Park. Marth loved to travel, play golf and spend time with family and friends. Marth is survived by his two sons, Todd and Tyler Marthaler; sister, Barbara (Marthaler) Gephardt; and four grandchildren, Tessa, Emma, Sam, and Lucy and companion, Janet Edwards. Marth was preceded in death by his wife, Tess; sister, Nancy (Marthaler) Stark; and his parents. A memorial service was held at The Church at Litchfield Park on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Dale L. Hopely Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Autism Speaks or the American Cancer Society. Condolences can be sent to www.thompsonfuneralchapel.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Thompson Funeral Chapel in Goodyear, Arizona.
