Frances Spencer Obituary


Frances A. Spencer Frances Ann (Freeman) Spencer, 77, of Alberene, died on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at her home. She was born on October 11, 1935, in Albemarle County, a daughter of the late Robert and Virginia (Cobb) Spencer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen R. Spencer; and a brother, Paul Freeman and his wife, Lucille. Mrs. Spencer was a homemaker. She was a member of Alberene Baptist Church and enjoyed working in her flower garden and crocheting. Survivors include four children, Robert G. Spencer and his wife, Ginger, of Roanoke, Jessie Lee Spencer and his wife, Becky, of Greene County, Penny D. Maupin and her husband, Robbie, of Scottsville, and Neil R. Spencer of Alberene; a brother, Fletcher Freeman and his wife, Margie, of Batesville; three sisters, Bernice Spencer of Charlottesville, Phyllis Maupin and husband, Ben, and Mary Rhodes, all of Alberene; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Alberene Baptist Church with the Reverend Jeff Cale and the Reverend Rudy Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in Alberene Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013, at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
