Margaret Whitton, an actress who starred in the movie “Major League,” has died at the age of 67, according to multiple news sources.

Whitton died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 4, at her home in Palm Beach, Florida, after a brief battle with cancer, Steven Tabakin, her friend and producing partner, told The Hollywood Reporter.

In the 1989 hit comedy movie “Major League,” Whitton played Rachel Phelps, a former Las Vegas showgirl who becomes the owner of the Cleveland Indians. Her character wants the team to lose so that she can move them to Miami. She also appeared in the sequel “Major League II.”

Whitton also starred with Terri Garr in a 1991 sitcom called “Good & Evil.”

Whitton, who was born Nov. 30, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, made her debut off-Broadway in 1973. She moved on to Broadway and starred in “Steaming” with Judith Ivey.

She moved on to directing plays and directed her first movie in 2011 with “A Bird of the Air.”

She and her husband, Warren Spector, who survives her, created the independent film company Tashtego Films.
