Bronze Star Memorial Site: Notable Deaths & Obituaries

The Bronze Star is a U.S. military decoration awarded for bravery, acts of merit or meritorious service. Established in 1944, the medal has been awarded in every armed conflict in which the U.S. has been involved since WWII. The award is also open to members of foreign armed forces assisting in U.S. military efforts. This memorial site was created to honor the brave men and women who have been awarded Bronze Stars.

Bronze Star Memorials: Remembering the life, death and legacy of Paul Schwerdt.

Paul Jacob Schwerdt Oct. 16, 1923 to Sept. 12, 2014 Paul died at age 90 a month before his 91st birthday. He was born in Sterling, CO. to Joseph and Pauline (Appelhans) Schwerdt. He was the oldest of seven children. Paul spent his early years on a farm in Atwood, CO. and graduated from St. Anthony's High School in Sterling. The family moved to Portland in 1941.
