Leonard A. Turgeon
1925 - 2013 ADAMS Leonard A. Turgeon, 87, husband of Evelyn Turgeon, passed away peacefully in the company of his family on April 12, 2013, in Saint Petersburg, Fla., where he has resided since 1995.
Leonard was born Oct. 9, 1925 in Adams, to Aldemar and Manila (Boisvert) Turgeon. There he attended Notra Dame Elementary and Adams High Schools.
As part of the greatest generation, a patriotic Leonard enlisted in the Army upon graduation from high school. He served in the 106th Division during the Battle of the Bulge, where he was taken prisoner of war. He was awarded a Bronze Star Metal for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations against the enemy 1944. Upon return to the United States, Leonard attended Boston University, where he attained his Juris Doctorate.
Leonard returned to Adams to practice law and there he met and married Evelyn Orlowski, and raised a family with her.
Leonard was very active in community affairs, having served as Clerk of Court, Plunkett Memorial Hospital Trustee, Adams Town Library Trustee, was Adams Town Council, a Notre Dame Parish Trustee and a member of the Adams Co-Operative Bank Board of Directors, "where he remained an Emeritus member." Leonard was a lifelong member of the American Legion.
Leonard Turgeon was pre-deceased by his brother, Eugene Turgeon; by his daughter, Lenore Leavitt Turgeon, and by his granddaughter, Jennifer Gustafson.
Leonard Turgeon is survived by his wife of 57 years Evelyn Turgeon, of Saint Petersburg; his son, Joseph Turgeon, daughter-in law, Sharon Turgeon, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Turgeon of Raleigh, N.C., great-grandson, Ander Gustafson and Greta Gustafson of Washington D.C.; his sister-in-law, Henrietta Truskowski, and husband, Stanley, nephew David Truskowski, and wife Kathy, nephew Paul Truskowski, and wife, Laura; sister-in-law, Fran Turgeon, nephew, John Turgeon, niece, Christine Coyle, husband Felim Coyle.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Funeral Service Mass will be held on April 20, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Church, 1600-54th Ave. South, Saint Petersburg, Fla. 33712-4999
