MILES, Raymond E., age 93, died, March 15, 2013 at his home. He was born August 5, 1919, in Fluvanna County the second son of Margaret Jehue Bugg and Floyd William Miles. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Floyd W. Miles Jr. and Wendell J. Miles. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pauline Wills Miles; daughter, Melanie Miles Hewes; son, Joseph L. Miles (Susan); grandchildren, Heather M. Miller (Brad), Andrew C. Miles (Colleen), Jonathan E. Hewes (Holly), and Steven K. Miles (Jennifer); great-granddaughters, Jessica L. Miller, Avery E. Hewes and Lillian M. Miles. Ray entered the service in April 1941, served in the 87th Division in the 3rd Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, earning two Bronze Stars, and was discharged in 1945 as a Captain. He was employed by Concrete Pipe and Products in Richmond for 37 years, retiring in 1984 as Executive Vice President and Controller. He was a member of Richmond area organizations, including serving as Chapter President of Civitan, Chapter President of the National Association of Accountants and a Charter Member and Past President of the Chesterfield Jaycees. He was also a Charter Member of Willow Oaks Country Club. After retiring, he was very active in the 87th Infantry Division Association, serving as National Commander in 1998. He and Pauline were invited by the Belgium Bureau of Tourism to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Link Up between the King's Scottish Highlanders and the 87th Division during the Battle of the Bulge. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road. Ray and Pauline were members, for 61 years, of Ramsey Memorial United Methodist Church, 5900 Hull Street Road, Richmond, Va., where his funeral ceremony will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Special Operations Warrior Foundation, P. O. Box 13483, Tampa, Fla. 33681.
