Barry M. Betts Obituary

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Barry M. Betts, 53, of East Street died Friday, November 1, 2013 in the Philip Hulitar Hospice House, Providence, RI surrounded by his loving family. He was cared for at home during his 16 month battle with cancer by his loving family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Paula (Rossier) McSweeney Betts.

Born October 27, 1960 in Attleboro, he was a son of Patricia (Smith) Betts of North Attleboro and the late Donald R. Betts.

Barry was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro and was a 1979 graduate of North Attleboro High School. He has been self-employed, driving trucks for Barry Betts & Sons for the past 15 years and previously was a 4th generation building mover at the family business, D.R. Betts, Inc. for many years. He also ran a plowing business in the wintertime.

Barry loved animals and was an avid gardener, becoming the third generation to work on the family's property in North Attleboro. He loved spending time with Paula playing slot machines, traveling to beaches on Cape Cod and singing Karaoke. Barry especially loved spending time with family and friends and was a funny man who always made people laugh, even without much effort.

In addition to his wife and mother, Barry is survived by his two sons: Thomas and Michael Betts both of North Attleboro; two step-sons: Andrew Higginbotham and Patrick McSweeney, Jr. both of North Attleboro; two granchildren of North Attleboro; two brothers: Donald R. Betts, Jr. and Timothy Betts both of North Attleboro; nieces: Stephanie and Briana Betts; a nephew Donald Betts III and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 7 from 5-8 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 8 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro followed by a collation at the North Attleboro Elk's Lodge, Bullfinch Street, North Attleboro at noontime.
