R. Harvey Dodd Obituary

R. Harvey Dodd R. Harvey Dodd, insurance executive, University of Virginia booster, loyal Elk and loving father, died at his home on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, after a long illness. He was 85. Mr. Dodd worked in and around Charlottesville all his life. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and then returned to Charlottesville, where he met his future wife, the former Barbara Penn. They married in 1953, and raised two children.

In addition to his work in the insurance industry, Dodd remained a University of Virginia athletics fan his entire life, especially of the Cavalier football and basketball teams, and worked as an usher at their games for many years. He was also a loyal fan of the Washington Redskins, and closely followed NASCAR racing. He was a longtime member of Elks Lodge #389, where he served as treasurer for a number of years.

In addition to his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara Penn Dodd, he is survived by a son, Randy Alan Dodd and his wife, Robin, of Midlothian, Virginia; a daughter, Terry Caddell and her husband, Ray, both of Charlottesville; a brother, Calvin E. Dodd and his wife, Virginia, of Charlottesville; and grandchildren, Lance Dodd, Elyse Dodd, Zach Weber and Julianna Caddell.

Mr. Dodd was a member of the First Presbyterian Church on Park Street since childhood. Friends and family may visit from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad, 828 McIntire Road, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
