Donald K. Purdy, age 87, longtime Council Bluffs Funeral Director, passed away February 25, 2013.
Donald was born, June 15, 1925, in Greenfield, Iowa, to Clifford and Mary (Cox) Purdy and graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1942. Don served in the US Army during WWII in the 4th Armored Division. He moved to Council Bluffs in 1946 and served as a Funeral Director for over 62 years, retiring in 2008, from the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Don was a longtime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and a charter member of Optimist Club from 1958 to present.
He is preceded in death by wife, Marianne (Seegers) in 1985, wife, Ilene (Breck) Smith in 2000; sister, Shirley Bond in 1998; brothers, Bill Purdy, in 2001, and Don Schwerdt, in 2003.
Don is survived by son, Mark D. Purdy and wife, Michelle, of Estes Park, Colo.; granddaughter, Kellsie Marianne Purdy; and grandson, Noah James Purdy, also of Estes Park; god-daughter, Courtney McPartland, of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters, Helen (Philip) Sopocko, of Diamond Bar, Calif., Jeanette (Rex) Leanhart, of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces and nephews.
Visitation Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral services Friday, 11 a.m. Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Interment Ridgewood Cemetery with military rites. Luncheon will follow at the Community Room at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or Optimist Foundation of Council Bluffs.
