Robert "Red" Varney Obituary

Robert (Red) Varney of Sunfield passed away December 30, 2012, at age 81. He was born in Isabella County, north shore of Lake Stevens. He retired from General Motors after 38 years from tool gage and fixture repair. He also retired from Michigan National Guards as Master Sargent, Unit 119, after 29 years.

He was a member of U.A.W. Retirees 1618, and Eaton Area Senior Center. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, water skiing, snowmobiling and building homes for his children and himself.

Robert & Mona Varney have a daughter, Sharon Shoup, and son, Robert O. Varney. Robert has three step children with Shirley Varney, Mark (Marsha) Stambaugh, Debbie (Dave) Hill, and Ronald Stambaugh. Robert has four step sons with Betty Varney, David (Terri) Anderson, Marvin (Lynn) Anderson, Michael (Rebecca) Anderson and Harold Anderson. He was proceeded by his parents, Herbert & Hattie Varney, brothers Francis Varney, Leo (Frances) Varney, and sister Betty (George) Wilder.

Surviving are wife, Betty Varney, brother Vernell (Bev) Varney, two half brothers, Herbert (Gail) Varney, Al (Linda) Varney, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Anderson.

He has 14 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM - Thursday Jan. 3, 2013 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, MI. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM - Friday Jan. 4, 2013 also at the Rosier Funeral Home. After the service a committal service with full Military Rites at the Clarence Center Cemetery, Springport, MI with a luncheon to follow at the twp. Hall.
