WILHELM, John Frank, 87, of Richmond went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2013. This dearly loved and respected husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and father-in-law was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Josephine "Jo" Long. He is survived by their four daughters, Carolyn Lilly and her husband, John, Genevieve Wilhelm, Elizabeth "Betsy" Johnson and her husband, David, Amy Daylor and her husband, John; six grandchildren, Donald Haden Riddick and his wife, Kolleen, David "Will" and Mark Johnson, John, Christopher and Grace Daylor. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Briglia "Brigs," Maddox and Kadence Riddick. A veteran, John served in the Army Air Force in World War II and the Air Force during the Korean conflict. Following his years in the service of his country, he attended Washington and Lee University. After retiring from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia, he enjoyed over 20 years of volunteering at Saint Mary's Hospital. As an active member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, he served as an elder. He enjoyed riding his bike, fishing, reading, attending lacrosse games and was an avid walker. He loved the Lord, his wife and his family. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, March 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 5200 Grove Ave., Richmond, Va. 23226. A memorial service will be held at St. Giles on Monday, March 18, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts may be made to the USO at or USO, P.O. Box 96860, Washington, D.C. 20077, or to St. Giles Presbyterian Church. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Morningside in the West End Assisted Living for their exceptional kindness and care.
