CROWDER, Max Bagley 81, died at home with family on February 26. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Edith; his three children, Catherine Townsend of Seattle, Wash., Charles Randall "Randy" Crowder of Barnwell, S.C. and M. Bagley Crowder; wife, Susannah and daughter, Chloe of Denver, Colo.; and by his brother, Jimmie Keith Crowder of South Hill. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles H. Crowder Sr. and Lina Bagley Crowder; and by his brother, Dr. Charles H. Crowder Jr. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had a long career with Burlington Industries and later the Virginia Department of Corrections. He was curator of the Tobacco Farm Life Museum of Virginia for 15 years. Mr. Crowder became widely known as a historian of Southside Virginia. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 1, at 2 p.m. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery.
