Richard S. Schonberg Obituary

Richard S. "Dick" Schonberg, age 78, of Council Bluffs, passed away August 17, 2013, at Mercy Hospital.

Dick was born October 19, 1934, in Council Bluffs, to the late Carl and Grace (Senior) Schonberg. He graduated Abraham Lincoln High School in 1952 and proudly served his country in the US Navy at the end of the Korean War. Dick married Linda Lou Saggs on February 14, 1959. They were blessed with two children. Dick was an electrician for IBEW Local #22 for 25 years and then was the director of building and grounds for IWCC for 15 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church, IBEW Local #22 and the American Legion Post #2.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Schonberg in 2006; brother, Robert Schonberg; and sister, Virginia Smith. Dick is survived by his daughter, Katherine Austria, of Bellevue, Neb.; son, Mark (Kum Ju) Schonberg, of Ft. Meade, Md.; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service, Thursday, 11 a.m., at Saint John Lutheran Church. A lunch will immediately follow. Inurnment in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Saint John Lutheran Church.
