Arthur Wolferd Obituary


Arthur Joseph Wolferd Arthur Joseph Wolferd, 80, of Albemarle County, Virginia, went to heaven on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born in Brooklyn Kings County, New York, on September 23, 1932. He joined the United States Marine Corps where he served as Sergeant. While in the Marines he served in the Korean Conflict and received the following medals, Korean Service and good conduct medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Korean War Service medal. Before moving to Virginia, from Deerpark, New York, he was retired as a oil terminal manager in Great Neck, New York, a Lieutenant in the Deerpark Volunteer Fire Department, Company 4, a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 5348 and a lifetime member of the American Bowling Congress. His hobbies included, model railroading, gardening, fishing, hunting, woodworking and bowling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur William Wolferd and Lillian Witterman Wolferd; and his wife, Patricia M. Wolferd. He is survived by three daughters, Susan P. Wolferd and Kathryn W. McEldowney of Charlottesville, and Patricia Armstrong of Waynesboro; two sons, Arthur J. Wolferd of Selden, New York, and Richard J. Wolferd of Bay Shore, New York; daughters--in-law, Hilda and Barbara Wolferd; sons-in-law, Tim R. McEldowney and Dwayne Armstrong; 11 grandchildren, Brian, Mark, Rachel of Charlottesville, Michael Wolferd of Ohio, Melissa Wolferd of Selden, New York, Joshua and Madison Wolferd of Bay Shore, New York, and Jacklyn and Kaitlin Wolferd of Corman, New York; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville, with interment to follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or to The Korean War Memorial Foundation.
