Donald Ober Obituary


Donald Roderick Ober Donald Roderick Ober, 82, of Orange, Virginia, died on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Born on March 13, 1931, in Lake Forest, Illinois, he was the son of the late Woodbury Swan Ober and Jane McLennan Ober of Orange. Mr. Ober was also predeceased by a sister Jane Ober. Mr. Ober is survived by his wife, Vibeke E. Ober of Orange; a daughter, Ellen Ober Pitera and husband, Rob, of Orange; a son, Paul H. Ober and wife, Priscilla, of Brooklyn, New York; four grandchildren Olivia, Charlie, Elsa, and Douglas, one sister, Nancy O. Bowman; and eight nephews and nieces. Donald was a combat veteran during the Korean Conflict with the Marine Corps. He was also a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 14, president of the Orange County Jaycee's, member of the Christ Anglican Fellowship, real esate broker, active in environmental conservation, and loved living and working on his farm. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Orange Baptist Church. Interment will be private in Graham Cemetery. The Reverends Woody Bowman and Jim Beavers will officiate. A reception will follow at Rounton Farm immediately following the service. Pallbearers include Doug Bowman, Ross Kimball, Pen Bresee, Lindsay Tucker, Bob Vasquez, Frank Walker, Bateman McClure, and Mark Robbins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Anglican Church, P.O. Box 265, Orange, VA 22960 or Hunters for the Hungry, P.O. Box 304, Big Island, VA 24526. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange, is assisting the family.
