ROBERT E. DAVENPORT Obituary


DAVENPORT, Robert Emmett, 68, of Powhatan, Va., died Tuesday, February 12, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Davenport; his daughters, Kimberley Davenport, Lori Thompson and husband, Richard, Amy Baxter and husband, Brent, and Shelly Cook and husband, Kevin; his grandchildren, Cassidy, Anabelle, Bradley, Mallory and Charlotte. He is also survived by his brothers, William Davenport and Vernon "Sonny" Davenport; and sisters, Shirley Hall and Betty Bowen. He was preceded in death by his father, William Pierce Davenport; his mother, Marie Beauchamp Davenport; and his brother, Lawrence Davenport. Bob was dearly loved by his family and friends. He was charismatic, hard working and lived life to the fullest. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966. He was a local mechanical contractor and enjoyed many adventures touring the country by motorcycle. He also enjoyed boating and fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. He treasured the time spent making friends at the RV park, Bluegrass music festivals and local diners. His wit, story telling and friendship will be missed by many. His family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where a funeral service will be held Saturday, February 16, at 12 noon. Special thanks to the staff at McGuire VA Medical Center, for the care he received during the last two months, and to the folks at the DaVita Dialysis Center, for their kind assistance and understanding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Disabled Veterans of America.
