Robert Persad-John Obituary

PERSAD-JOHN, Robert September 27, 1933 - August 19, 2013 . Bob passed peacefully at NRGH on Monday, August 19th, 2013. He is survived by Reia, his wife of 40 years; his children, Bernard, Alvin, and Dianne; his grandchildren, Austin and Liam; and his partner Jacquie McKamey. Bob is also survived by his brothers, Attai (Eusalt) Wong and Akim (Sheila) Wong; his sisters, Doreen Wong and Ruby Wong; his sister-in-law, Dovie Rookmin Persad; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was born in Trinidad, West Indies and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1965. He worked in the mines in Port McNeill before moving to Nanaimo. Bob set his roots in Nanaimo and commuted to Port Alberni, where he worked as a welder for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. Bob enjoyed Country-Western music and dancing. "Country Bob" was an amazing dancer and a sharp dresser. He loved the adventure of travel and made trips to the Caribbean and South America. Bob also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and fishing. He will be missed on the dance floor and in our hearts. Special thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses in the NRGH Palliative Care Unit. A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held on Monday, August 26th at 2:00 pm at the Moose Hall, 1356 Cranberry Ave, Nanaimo, BC. Flowers gratefully declined. If you wish, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Lung Association. Sands ~ Nanaimo
