Connie Sawyer Obituary

Connie Sawyer, known as Hollywood’s oldest working actress, has died at the age of 105, according to multiple news sources.

Though she performed in her first vaudeville show at the age of 18, she is known to a modern audience through appearances in the movies “Dumb and Dumber” and “The Pineapple Express.” She also had roles on many hit television series including “Seinfeld,” “The Office” and “Ray Donovan.”

Sawyer was born Rosie Cohen on November 27, 1912, in Pueblo, Colorado. Legendary entertainer Sophie Tucker took her under her wing. Sawyer went on to Broadway where she played Miss Wexler in “A Hole in the Head.” She repeated the role in the movie version that starred Frank Sinatra.

Other movie credits include “Ada” and “The Way West.”

She appeared on television for over six decades. She had roles on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Dynasty,” “Will and Grace” and “How I Met Your Mother.”

In “Dumb and Dumber,” her character stole Jim Carrey’s wallet, and recently she played the mother of James Woods in “Ray Donovan.”

Sawyer is survived by two daughters, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
