Charles Broeg Obituary

Broeg, Charles, 96, retired chemist, Vice-President and Technical Director of Revere Sugar Corporation (formerly SuCrest Corporation, 120 Wall Street, NYC. NY), died March 14, 2013. Charles was born March 15, 1916, in Princeton, Indiana to Julius Scott and Bessie Colvin Broeg. Visitation with family present 3:00-6:00 pm, Thursday, March 21, at Broadway Mortuary. Charles graduated with honors in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics from DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana, earned his M.S. Degree from Oklahoma State University in Physical Organic Chemistry and completed his Ph.D. from Tulane University in Chemistry. He served as Director to the World Sugar Research Org., the International Sugar Research Foundation, the New York Sugar Trade Laboratory and the National Confectioners' Association. He was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Philippines where he developed techniques for underwater welding and served in the Naval Reserves. Charles was a lifelong scholar, a kind and gracious gentleman, and a dearly loved uncle. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Ann Carroll Kellis Broeg. Survivors include his niece, Susan W. (Don) Lear of Wichita; nephew Jim (Cindy) Winfiele of Midlothian, Virginia; and nephew Stephen (Marilyn) Kitten of Gaffney, South Carolina and numerous great and grand nieces and nephews. A memorial has been established with the Pregnancy Crisis Center of Wichita, Inc., 1048 N. West St., Wichita, KS 67203. Charles will be buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Houma, LA.
