KIRBY, Howard Stanley Sr., of Glen Allen, went to be with the Lord May 23, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Jean Taylor Kirby; and his sons, Stan (Barbara) and Marshall (Karen). Born on March 4, 1928 in Richmond, he was the son of John and Inez Gammon Kirby. Howard was "Pop" to five grandchildren, Sara, Kyle, Matthew, Justin and Jeremy. Also surviving is his brother, Harold Kirby (Ann); He was recently preceded in death by a lifelong friend, Frank Ragali. During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy as a Gunnersmate 2nd Class on the USS Oregon. Howard worked in the food distribution business until his retirement in 1996. He was a man whose over the top friendliness and passion for customer service made him a natural in the meat/sales field. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's - Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A celebration of life service will be conducted Sunday, May 26, at 3 p.m. at Newbridge Baptist Church, 5701 Elko Rd., Sandston, by the Rev. Dr. Robert Edwards. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Choir Ministry, or the Building Fund of Newbridge Baptist Church, where he was a longtime active member.
