McLEAN, Dr. James Hannis Sr., 92, of Glen Allen, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Owen Van Hoose McLean; two sons, James Hannis Jr. and wife, Airen,, of Andover, Minn., and Donald M. and wife, Judy, of Seymour, Tenn.; a daughter, Janet Kathelaine McLean; a granddaughter, Lauren E. McLean. Dr. McLean served his country in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. His education included a law degree from Emory University, a master's degree from University of Alabama, and his Ph.D. from Ohio State University. His career as an accounting professor encompassed tenure at Georgia State University, University of Tennessee and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He was Dean of the College of Business at East Tennessee State University and retired in 1986 from Virginia Commonwealth University. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Ashland. Dr. McLean was also known to many for his beloved Benlea championship Welsh ponies. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where services will begin at 3 p.m. with burial in Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church, 800 Thompson St., Ashland, Va.
