EDWARDS, Commander Joe Duke (USN, Ret.), died July 20, 2013. He was born on June 4, 1933 to Joseph DePriest and Eleanor Faye Edwards, in Alamo, Tenn. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, class of 1956, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 until his retirement in 1978. He also earned a master's degree and worked as a CPA until his retirement in 2012. He was an active member of Bon Air Christian Church, serving in many capacities. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Dorothy; sons, Jeffrey and Gregory; brother, Gary; daughters-in-law, Kathy and Margaret; and grandchildren, Jessica, Erik, Martin and Rebecca. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Mark; and sister, Jeaneen Lile. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., Richmond. A celebration of Joe's life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Bon Air Christian Church, 2071 Buford Rd., North Chesterfield. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
