Kenneth D. Patenaude Obituary


Kenneth D. Patenaude StillwaterKenneth D. Patenaude, 89, longtime resident of Hudson Ave., died Saturday, August 17th at home, after being stricken. Born in Mechanicville, Sept. 21, 1923, son of the late William and Florence Patenaude. Ken enlisted in the US Navy during WWII, serving aboard the USS Upham APD-99, in the Atlantic Theater and Mediterranean Sea. A brake inspector for the Bendix Corp. in Green Island for many years, he retired in 1977. After retirement, Ken would putter around his home and helped his son with many community projects. Named the Town of Stillwater Citizen of the Year in 1999, Ken was also given the Senior Volunteer Appreciation Award by the Stillwater Area Community Center in 1998. While a patient at the Albany VA Hospital in 1993, Ken was called by President Bill Clinton and was thanked for his service and asked how his care and the VA treated him. A past commander and member of the American Legion Post 1644, Riverside, Ken enjoyed country rides and conversing with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Louise Gaudette Patenaude; daughter, Deborah (Bob Hagadorn) Patenaude; son, Kenneth R. (Phyllis) Patenaude; and granddaughter, Rebecca Patenaude, all of Stillwater; sister, Doris Petronis of Mechanicville; and brother, Earl Patenaude of California; along with many nieces, nephews and their families. Ken was also predeceased by sisters, Lydia DeLaRosa, Evelyn Bolton, and Connie Rush; and brothers, Lionel, LeRoy, Wilford, and Arnold Patenaude. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial with military honors at Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, in memory of Kenneth D. Patenaude.
