Martin Tierney Obituary


Martin Frederick Tierney Sr. STUARTS DRAFT Martin Frederick Tierney, Sr., 86, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Saturday evening, June 29, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 24, 1926, in Hartford, Connecticut, son of the late Frederick Martin Tierney and Amelia Lucy Burke Tierney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret R. Tierney; and a son, Albert William Tierney. Mr. Tierney was a Navy veteran having served during World War II and was a retired truck driver. He enjoyed cooking, water skiing and swimming. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 559. He is survived by his children, Patricia Ann Duff and husband, Charlie, of Greenville, Virginia, Lynda Jean Rust of East Hartford, Connecticut, Martin Frederick Tierney Jr. and wife, Garnett, of East Windsor, Connecticut, Teresa June Thompson and husband, James, of Stuarts Draft, Virginia, and Andrew Tierney of Georgia; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Tierney of Marlboro, Connecticut; and daughter-in-law, Tammie Tierney of Florida. He is also survived by special friends, Jeannetta Addison, Trish DeWitt and Virginia Sweet. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes followed by military honors by the American Legion Post 340 at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AH Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O.
