DODDS, Ronald Neil, D.D.S., of Midlothian, Va., passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013 following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada and Joseph Dodds; his sister, Nevis Alger; and his daughter, Sheryl. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carole; and his cat, Annie; daughters, Lynda and Betsy; sons, Ronald, Chris, Mike and John, and their families, including nine grandchildren. Dr. Dodds was born on August 24, 1931 in Butte, Montana. He attended Emerson Grade School and Butte High School. During this period, he was active in Scouting and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Carroll College in Helena, Montana with an A.B. degree, and lettered in sports there. In 1957, he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from Creighton University Dental School, and was President of it's Xi Psi Phi dental fraternity. He received a commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy in 1957 and completed a dental internship at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif. In 1967, he completed his Endodontics Residency at the U.S. National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md., and the U.S. Naval Hospital, San Diego, Calif. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics in 1969. He ran a Fellowship Program in Endodontics at The Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. He was Director of Clinical Services at The U.S. Naval Shipyard, Philadelphia, Pa. After his service in the U.S. Navy, he became Director of the Advanced Educational Program in Endodontics at the Medical College of Virginia, School of Dentistry, Virginia Commonwealth University from 1980 to 1996. He was in Who's Who in Dentistry and elected in to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Honor Society. He retired from the Medical College of Virginia as Professor Emeritus in 1996. He was a life member of the American Association of Endodontists and the American Board of Endodontics. He was a member of the College of Diplomates, American Association of Dental Schools and the Virginia Academy of Endodontics. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 14, at Bliley's - Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd. A ceremony will be held 3 p.m. Friday, February 15, in the chapel at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. Kindly gather at the cemetery office ten minutes prior to the ceremony. "Farewell Big Dog, All Our Love Always."
