Shelton "Nick" Carter Obituary


Shelton "Nick" Carter, 86, of County Street passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born November 20, 1926 in Cumberland, RI, he was a son of the late Joseph and Levina (White) Carter.
Mr. Carter grew up in Cumberland and later lived in Norton for many years before moving to Attleboro 30 years ago.
He worked as a night foreman for Compo Shoe Industries in Mansfield for many years and later in maintenance for Telco Systems in Norwood before retiring in 1992.
Mr. Carter was a US Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in European-African Theatre.
He was a member of the Good News Bible Chapel in Attleboro where he enjoyed attending services until his later years when he would watch various television ministries from his home.
Nick loved TV, cooking home-made meals and cakes for family and friends and was devoted to his cat, Mia. He also loved both saltwater and freshwater fishing.
He is survived by five children and their spouses: Diane Paul and her husband Vern of FL and Nova Scotia, Canada, Steven Carter and wife Kathy of Fresno, CA, Richard Carter and wife Debbie of Taunton, David Carter and wife Debbie of Attleboro and Judy Phillinger and husband Robert of Attleboro; seven grandchildren: Veronica, Rebecca, Melissa, Samantha, Richard, Michael and Christopher Carter; two great-grandchildren: Averie and Thomas Carter; and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Robert, Clyde and Muriel Carter.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 28 from 4-7 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A funeral will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, October 29 at 10 a.m. followed by burial in Arnold Mills Cemetery, Cumberland.
