Wayne O. "Jake" Bryant Obituary



Wayne O. "Jake" Bryant, age 91, of Underwood, Iowa, passed away June 9, 2013, at the Avoca, Iowa Nursing Home.

Wayne was born July 15, 1921, in Grant, Iowa, to the late John L. and Jesse Maud (Coppock) Bryant. He graduated Villisca High School in 1939 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 4 years during World War II.

Wayne was a clerk for the Chicago Rock Island Railroad for 32 years, retiring in 1980. After his retirement, Wayne served as a Pottawattamie County Supervisor from 1985-1992 and past chairman of MAPA.

Wayne was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oakland, Iowa, VFW, American Legion, Ark Masonic Lodge and was a Shrine clown.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Chyrl Bryant in 1975.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lovina (Kelley) Churchill Bryant, of Underwood; son, Doug (Claudia) Bryant, of Avoca; stepchildren, Carolyn Schoening, of Council Bluffs, Dick (Joan) Churchill, of Hopkinton, Mass., Ken (Flo) Churchill, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Edward (Eileen) Churchill, of Omaha; grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; and brother, John (Karen) Bryant, of Council Bluffs.

Visitation with the family Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service Friday, 11 a.m., at the Oakland, Iowa United Methodist Church. Reverend Karen Hoff, pastor will officiate. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment with military honors in Oaklawn Cemetery, Oakland. A luncheon will follow at the church. The family will direct memorials.
