MAYME STONE Obituary


STONE, Mayme Frayser O'Flaherty, age 92, of Richmond, Virginia, died November 16, 2012 after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Richard Patterson Stone. She is survived by her sons, Richard O'Flaherty Stone and wife, Cynthia, and William Anderson Stone and wife, Carolyn, all of Richmond; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Stone Straeten and husband, David, of Charlotte, Daniel O'Flaherty Stone and wife, Andrea, of Richmond, Laura Stone Jacobs and husband, Kendrick, of Raleigh, and Sara Patterson Stone of Richmond. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, David Renier Straeten III (Stone), Taylor Nicole Jacobs and Caden DeWayne Jacobs; nephew, William Jefferson O'Flaherty and wife, Paula, and Mary Celeste (Dee) Strotmeyer and husband, James. Mrs. Stone was a retired Minister of Music at Third Presbyterian Church and a past Dean of the Richmond Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. She was a lifelong member at Battery Park Christian Church, a member for more than 70 years of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Richmond Women's Club, one of the organizers of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and Chairman of the Women's Committee, which is now the Richmond Symphony Orchestra League. She was a 1937 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and a 1941 graduate of Westhampton College of the University of Richmond, where she received the 1977 Distinguished Alumni Award. She was the first daughter of an alumna (Celeste Anderson O'Flaherty, WC 1915) to enter Westhampton College. Both she and Celeste were presidents of the student government while they were at the college. She also attended graduate school at Northwestern University. Her remains rest at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Battery Park Christian Church. Interment Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Battery Park Christian Church.
