DALTON – Joanne “Jody” May Gragg, age 84, died October 30, 2008.
She was born July 5, 1924 in Springfield, where she grew up with her mom, the late Hazel Huling and raised by her grandparents the late Johnson’s. She was married to the late, Si Carnes and they had two daughters, and then also married to the late Myrl Gragg and they had two daughters and one stepdaughter. She will be missed and remembered most for her sense of humor, great smile and love of jazz music, which she passed onto her girls. MOM will also be remembered for her love for HER CITY AND HER BRIDGE, San Francisco, California/the Golden Gate Bridge.
A wave in the US Navy during World War II, she was stationed at Patuxent Naval Air Station in Maryland as an Air Traffic Controller. She later worked for Monarch Marking Systems, Joann Fabrics, J.C. Penney’s, International Harvester, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Sunnyvale Air Force Station and Patrick Air Force Base. She was an avid bowler, active member in the Bauer Elementary School PTO, enjoyed yard work, being with her crazy friends and spending time with her girls and all of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be laid to rest with her late husband, Myrl at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman on Friday November 7th at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sharon Carson officiating; they will both receive military honors.

Hartell of Fremont, Calf., Lorrie Bowsher of Medway, Sally (Scott) Peters and Sandi Gragg, both of Dalton; stepdaughter, Barbara Pendergast of Fairborn; grandchildren in California, Rhonda Vicker, Joseph Hartell, William Wilken and in Ohio, the late Jeffrey Wilken, Tiffany, Jason and Brandon Peters, Jessica Smith; seven step grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
