Founded in 1855, Pennsylvania State University is one of the largest universities in the United States. The Nittany Lions also boast one of the most successful athletic programs in the country, with 65 national collegiate championships to their name. John Edgar "Jack" Whitlinger Jr., formerly of Apollo, died peacefully Saturday, June 30, 2018, in Orange City, Fla., shortly after celebrating his 95th birthday. Born May 7, 1923, in Apollo, he was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Jane Billeter, who was born Jan. 20, 1929, and died Jan. 2, 2010. They were married on Oct. 14, 1950.
