Robert F. Rutschow Robert F. Rutschow, 81, of Charlottesville, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012.
He was born on June 1, 1931, in Herkimer, New York, to the late Frederick and Amelia Tebbe Rutschow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half brother, Philip Z. Rutschow. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ilene Carr Rutschow; and by their sons, Robert Carr Rutschow and his wife, Elizabeth Zachry Rutschow, and their daughter, Amelie Savannah Rutschow; and William Tebbe Rutschow. He is also survived by his sister, Mary R. Allan and her husband, Abraham; his favorite cousins, Lois and Al Gibson, and Mary Edda and Duane Adams; along with many nieces and nephews. Mr. Rutschow was a graduate of Towson High in Maryland, in 1949, and VMI in 1953, with a BS in Civil Engineering. Following his graduation, he served on active duty with the United States Air Force from 1953 until 1955, as assistant Air Installations Officer at the primary duty station 500th Air Defense Group at Pittsburgh Airport. After that he worked at Boeing Airplane Company in stress analysis on the B-52G from 1955 until 1957.
After leaving Boeing, he was a graduate assistant at Penn State University, went on to accept a position as math instructor at VMI, and later earned his Law Degree at Washington and Lee University, in 1968, in Lexington, Virginia. While in Lexington, he met Ilene Carr, whom he married in 1966. He first began his law career in 1968 at the firm of Gordon and Haugh, later becoming the first director of the Legal Aid Society of Charlottesville in 1971. In 1973, he joined the law firm of Gordon and Marshall, and went on to become a sole practitioner from 1980 until his retirement in 1997. He also served as a Special Justice for the 16th Judicial Circuit of Virginia, and was an election official for many years. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with the Pastor Sandy Wisco officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
