John A Jackman Obituary

JOHN A. JACKMAN John Anthony Jackman, 84, of Bedford, died December 8, 2012 at Bentley Commons in Bedford, surrounded by his family and friends. Mr. Jackman was born July 7, 1928 in Waterbury, CT, the son of George W. and Kathryne (Frost) Jackman. He attended local schools and graduated from Ed Crosby High School in Waterbury in 1946. He was also a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology and Bridgeport Engineering. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Marines. He served as a police officer in Ct and NH for 30 years "the man with the orange hat and black dog". He held several patents for inventions he had developed and was a pioneer of wireless speakers at drive-in theaters. At the Bedford Drive-In, he collected tickets and was known as "Jack The Ripper". He worked at Sanders in Manchester, tutored in mathematics and was a college professor at Portsmouth Technical College. In his spare time, he manufactured wig-wags, used by local municipalities for their emergency vehicles, reloaded ammunition, did gardening and was a connoisseur of food. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved dogs, walking, doing puzzles, passed the MENSA test and was a member of the NRA. He was a HAM radio operator on W1UAD. He was a communicant of St. Raphael Church. John was predeceased by his son, Andrew Jackman in 2006. Members of his family include his wife of 61 years, Mary (Imbert) Jackman of Bedford, a son and his wife, Daniel J. and Sandra Jackman of Goffstown, a daughter and her husband, Marianne and Rob Jenkins of Bedford, grandchildren, Becca Jackman Neville and her husband Chris Neville, Nate Jackman, Laura Jenkins, Alex Jenkins, Glen Jackman, Kurt Jackman, a brother, Richard Jackman of Waterbury CT. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St., corner of Beech St. The funeral liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Church, 103 Walker St. Manchester. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church. A bereavement lunch will follow in the lower church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
