James Wright Obituary

James A. Wright III James A. Wright III passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday, May 31, 2013. He was born on December 15, 1929, in Wakefield, Rhode Island, to Helen Budge Wright and James Attmore Wright, and was raised in Coral Gables, Florida. His maternal grandfather moved to Miami in the 1800's and established the Frank T. Budge Hardware Company, one of the first hardware stores, which supplied materials for many early homes and businesses, as well as Henry Flagler's railroad line to Key West. Jim was graduated from The Choate School, Wallingford, Connecticut, Princeton University, B.S. and the University of Texas, Austin, M.S. He married Joan Broman in 1957. After retiring as a Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch, Jim and Joan moved to Charlottesville, where they have enjoyed 18 happy years. He is a past member of Farmington Country Club, the Riviera Country Club, and Biscayne Bay Yacht Club. In retirement, Jim pursued his love of his profession by following the financial markets daily. His many interests included a love of music, golf, fishing, and gardening. He cherished his family to whom he was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Jim was a man of strong character and great wisdom who will be missed by all who knew him. Jim is survived by his wife, Joan, of 56 years; his daughter, Elise Wood and her husband, Richard; granddaughters, Huntley and Helen, all of Coral Gables, Florida; his son, James A. Wright IV of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Janet Dingle; her two daughters; and three cousins. A family burial will take place in Florida. Our family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Pritchard and Dr. Gordon Morris for their fine care of Jim, Dr. Sylvia Hendrix, the nurses and staff at Martha Jefferson Cancer Center, as well as the entire team at Hospice of the Piedmont, and to all our friends who have given their love and support. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations in Jim's name to Choate Rosemary Hall, 333 Christian Street, Wallingford, CT 06492, or Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911
