Christopher Andrew "Drew" Leinonen, 32, of Orlando, Florida, a native of Detroit, Michigan, was killed in the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. He was at the club with his boyfriend, Juan Ramon Guerrero, who was also killed.

Leinonen's mother made headlines as she made impassioned pleas for information while waiting outside the hospital where victims were being treated.

A friend wrote on Facebook, "Drew was a friendly and funny guy who in high school could draw the most detailed and hilarious caricatures of classmates and teachers. He could sit back and pick up little nuances and create a whole cartoon bringing it to light. A guy who was brave enough to create the Gay & Straight Alliance as he came out Junior year because he was already working towards equality. When we would cross paths he was always welcoming and had a smile and would spend time catching up. You always left laughing because his sarcastic jokes always landed perfectly. He was a good person who cared about humanity and equality, and the loss of his life is a tragedy."
