Joseph Francis Gallagher, 87, of Manchester, died January 8, 2014 at Bedford Hills Healthcare in Bedford.
Mr. Gallagher was born in Manchester, May 26, 1926, the son of Bernard and Margaret (Gibbons) Gallagher. He attended local schools and graduated from St. Anselm College in 1950 with a BA in Arts and History, attended Boston University for two years where he earned his Master's degree and attended Perdue University to further his education.
He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and an avid Red Sox fan. He was a communicant of St. Raphael Church.
Mr. Gallagher was a teacher in New Jersey and New York and later worked in administration for Waste Management in New Milford, CT and retired from there.
He was predeceased by 4 brothers: Thomas in 1927, John in 2013, James in 1985, Bernard in 2005, and a sister, Margaret M. Loughlin in 2011.
Members of his family include 13 nieces and a nephew.
There are no calling hours.
A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 15, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Church 103 Walker St. followed with urn burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
