MARY AGIN Obituary

AGIN, Mary Elizabeth, of Richmond, passed away October 20, 2012. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio, on November 8, 1923, and was the daughter of Richie and Thelma Brown. Mary is survived by Ernest W. Agin, her husband of 68 years; daughters, Margaret Dickerson (Mrs. David Dickerson of Louisa County) and Lynn Agin-Spence (Mrs. James Spence of Palmyra, Va.); grandsons, Matthew Dickerson and Mark Dickerson; granddaughter, Coral Heider Carter; and great-grandson, Jordan Carter. After graduation from Zanesville High School and business college, Mary served as a secretary of a Zanesville hospital. She also served as a secretary to the officers of the Purdue University 4-H club while her husband was a student at Purdue. Mary moved with her family to Richmond in 1958. While a member of the Bon Air Women's Club, she was active in the establishment of the Hazen Memorial Library in the old stone building in Bon Air. This library formed a nucleus for the development of the Chesterfield County Library System in 1967. Mary worked in the county library system until her retirement in 1983. Mary was a longtime member of the Ginter Park Women's Club and Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 26, at Bethany Christian Church at 5400 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23225. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Bethany Christian Church Memorial Fund at the same address.
