Vickie Lynn Hurst Opel, 64, of Decatur passed from this life on Friday, November 23, 2012, at the Celebration Hospital in Celebration, Florida. She is the daughter of the late Loren Keith and Ninette Morman Troxell and was born on January 21, 1948, in Ashland, Kentucky. Vickie spent her childhood in Martinsville, Indiana, and graduated high school there with the class of 1966. Following high school graduation, she attended Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, and graduated in 1972 from the Purdue School of Pharmacy. While a student at Purdue, Vickie met her husband, Brian Opel, and they were married on August 15, 1970. She worked for many years as a pharmacist in a variety of retail stores including Staggs Drug Store in Martinsville and Payless Grocery Store Pharmacy Department in Anderson and had been disabled with multiple sclerosis for the past 30-plus years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Vickie is survived by a host of loving family including her husband of 42 years, Brian Opel of Decatur; son, Sean (wife, Kathryn) Opel of Sanford; daughters, Michelle Opel of Decatur and Jennifer (husband, Robert) Wilson of Smyrna, Tenn., and three grandchildren, Elexus and Jacob Wilson and Lauren Opel.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service celebrating her life on Tuesday, November 27th, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville. There will be no visitation and Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville has been entrusted with her final arrangements.
