WESSON, Robert Randolph, age 87, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Brunswick County, Va., passed away June 20, 2013. He is survived by his daughter, Alynne Rhys Wesson and her husband, Robert Goldblum, and their daughter, Nora Hunt Wesson. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie Brewer Wesson; by his sisters, Marjorie Clarke, Catherine Shell and Ann Wesson; and by his former wife, Dr. Patricia Alynne Hunt. Mr. Wesson was a graduate of Lawrenceville High School, Hargrave Military Academy and Virginia Tech. During World War II, he served with the 63rd Infantry "Blood and Fire" Division, and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in battle on the Siegfried Line in Germany. Mr. Wesson was a lifelong baseball fan and player, even playing briefly in the semi-pro leagues. He soloed as a pilot at age 13, worked as a crop duster shortly thereafter and then remained a recreational pilot and aviation enthusiast. He was the longtime historian of the 63rd Infantry Division. After receiving his training in agronomy, hosting an agriculture show on WTVR in Richmond and beginning his career with the Virginia and Federal Departments of Agriculture, he founded his own advertising company. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at James Square Baptist Church, Lawrenceville, Va., with interment in the church cemetery.
