"Charlie Haden and I were close friends in the early '80's. He was old enough to be my father but treated like an equal and not a child. I leArned a lot from him and knew that he always wanted the best for me even aftere both moved on. He used to tell me that he always kept his eyes closed while playing his bass because he could see a perfect world with no disease, racism, war, etc...I am comforted that Charlie is there now and I know I'll see him again some day when he greets me ands says "Hey Man" !"

"To all of Charlie's family, My thoughts, and I'm sure the thoughts of all the people who loved Charlie's music, are with you. I did not have the good fortune to know Charlie, but when I listen to his music I hear a sound that reflects a big heart and a beautiful soul. His music will always stay with me."

"Thank you, Charlie Haden, for bringing light and beauty to this world and for fighting the good fight along the way — all with guts and grace and soulful jazz music that will never be forgotten. Somehow I know the gates of heaven are now opening up for you to the strains of your tune "Spiritual". May your eternal journey be as wonderful as your life here among us has been."
