Alice Drummond, the character actress who was featured as the librarian in “Ghostbusters,” died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, according to multiple news sources. She was 88.

Drummond died in her home in the Bronx, a result of complications from a fall she had two months ago, according to The New York Times.

In the original 1984 “Ghostbusters” movie she played Alice, the librarian terrified by a ghost in the basement of the New York Public Library. She had a memorable scene in which she was interrogated by Bill Murray’s paranormal psychologist.

Born Alice Ruyter May 21, 1928, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, she graduated from Pembroke College (now Brown University) in 1950. She married Paul Drummond in 1951, and her professional name became Alice Drummond, a name that she continued to use after their divorce in 1975.

Her big break as an actress came with a three-episode appearance on the gothic soap opera “Dark Shadows” in 1967. She would later appear on other soaps including “Where the Heart Is” and “As the World Turns.” Over the course of her career, she had several guest appearances on various sitcoms and dramas.

In 1970, she earned a Tony nomination for featured actress in a play for the Broadway production of “The Chinese and Dr. Fish.”

On film, she worked with many notable actors. She was one of Robin Williams’ patients in “Awakenings,” and she played the mother of Ray Finkle in “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” in a series of scenes with Jim Carrey. In 2008, she played Sister Veronica in “Doubt,” starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Her last screen appearance was in the 2010 Brendan Fraser family comedy “Furry Vengeance.”
