On January 28, 1986, school children across America excitedly watched the Space Shuttle Challenger lift off with a crew that included civilian teacher Christa McAuliffe. Celebration quickly turned to horror as the Challenger exploded seconds after launch, resulting in the deaths of all seven crew members. A quarter of a century later, we remember the dedicated astronauts and civilians who died, including the brave woman who almost became the first teacher in space. This memorial site was created to honor the legacies of the Space Shuttle Challenger crew.
